New Early Voting Locations In Las Cruces And The Region

  LAS CRUCES, NM – Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office announced Thursday that an additional early voting site in Mesilla is being made available to voters on October 16th. Early in-person voting for the 2021 Regular Local Election (RLE) begins on October 5th at the Doña Ana County Government Center.

“There are elections taking place across the county on November 2nd,” said Clerk Amanda López Askin. “We added Mesilla Town Hall as an early voting location this year because we wanted to make sure that each municipality with races on the ballot had a location for its voters to participate.”

Early voting at the Government Center continues Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until October 29th, and Saturday, October 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Early voting will be closed on Monday, October 11th in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day.

Alternate Voting Locations, including the new site in Mesilla, will be available starting October 16th through October 30th, and will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. at the following locations:

·         Anthony City Hall – 820 Highway 478, Anthony, NM

·         Delores C. Wright Education Center – 400 E. Lisa Dr., Chaparral, NM

·         Hatch High School – 170 E. Herrera Rd., Hatch, NM

·         Sunland Park Doña Ana Community College – 3365 McNutt Rd., Sunland Park, NM

·         Sonoma Elementary School – 4201 Northrise Dr., Las Cruces, NM

·         NMSU Corbett Center – 1600 International Mall, Las Cruces, NM

·         Las Cruces City Hall – 700 N. Main, Las Cruces, NM

·         Mesilla Town Hall – 2231 Avenida de Mesilla, Mesilla, NM

Absentee ballots will be also be mailed to voters who have approved applications beginning on October 5th. Absentee applications are available online at NMVote.org, and the deadline to submit an application is October 28th.

“NMVote.org is a great resource provided by the New Mexico Secretary of State. It enables people to register to vote, check and change their status, and apply for absentee voting,” said Clerk Amanda López Askin. “If someone is unable to access the website, our offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. where our staff is able to help with any voting needs, along with other services.”

Voters who wish to vote via absentee ballot can return their absentee ballots through postal mail, at any polling location, or at the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office. Pursuant to the New Mexico Election Code, caregivers and immediate family members may also return an absentee ballot on behalf of a voter, but only at the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office.

Same Day Registration will be available at all alternate early voting location and the Doña Ana County Government Center while early voting is taking place. Qualified electors may register to vote or update their existing registration information before they vote.

The deadline to return absentee ballots is Election Day, November 2, 2021, by 7:00 p.m.

The last day to register for the 2021 RLE is October 5th at 5:00 p.m.
