Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES a la comunidad, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra spoke with New Mexico State Representative for District 35, Angelica Rubio, about the proposed paid sick leave bill which will be decided upon at the next legislative session in 2021.
The bill, if made into law, will apply to every employee who has less than 56 hours a year for time off in the event of illness, regardless of whether that employee is full or part-time, or a manager. It would mandate that all companies, regardless of size, provide one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. The minimum amount of time accrued will be 56 hours in a year and the time can be rolled over. Businesses that have more generous time off packages for their employees will not be affected by the bill.
