Las Cruces N.M. – Today, bringing attention to the needs of New Mexico’s rural communities prior to the upcoming legislative session, Representative Angelica Rubio (D-Las Cruces) is riding to the Roundhouse on an “Outside the I” bike tour of southeast and eastern New Mexico. Here is a statement from the New Mexico House Democrats: The tour will last seven days beginning in Las Cruces, with planned stops in the communities of Alamogordo, Ruidoso, Roswell, Vaughn, Clines Corners, Galisteo and commencing on the steps of the Roundhouse. During her ride, the Representative will be live streaming via Facebook and Instagram from as many locations as possible while speaking to the disconnectedness rural communities feel from their state government in Santa Fe.
“Many communities outside the I-25 corridor don’t feel connected to decisions being made in Santa Fe,” said Representative Rubio (D-Las Cruces). “Last year, I biked up I-25 from Las Cruces with the purpose of connecting Southern New Mexico to the capitol. I’m going to be doing the same this year. But instead of going up along the “I” I’ll go East, shedding light on the challenges facing folks in rural communities and taking their concerns to the Roundhouse.”
New Mexico has a rich history throughout every corner of its state and in our rural and native communities which are important drivers for the state’s health and economic vitality.
