Energy Efficiency Courses To Be Offered In Las Cruces Area

  Doña Ana Community College (DACC) will begin offering training courses for students and working professionals as part of a national initiative to lower energy usage and utility bills for Americans.  
 

Nearly $83 million was recently awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for improving energy-efficiency in residential and commercial buildings and incorporation of related technologies. New Mexico Department of Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources will receive $750,000 of the grant to fund four higher education institutions to expand energy conservation code training and education. DACC was one of the four institutions chosen. 

DACC’s Architecture and Construction Technologies Department and Community Education and Customized Training will develop and deliver credit and non-credit training to educate students and industry professionals about energy-efficiency codes, practices, and products related to increasing energy-efficiency and improving energy management of buildings. 

“The goal is to better inform and educate students and industry professionals on best practices for energy-efficiency and energy management design for existing buildings where applicable and for future building projects,” says Chipper Moore, Advanced Technologies division dean. 

DACC, along with the three other community colleges in the state, will develop the new education and training programs in early 2022 with delivery of the courses scheduled for later that year. The project, Sustainable Education for Advanced Buildings (SEAB), aims to improve and expand education on energy-efficiency codes, practices, and products to create a more energy-efficient New Mexico.
