Doña Ana County, in partnership with the New Mexico Border Industrial Association, secured federal funding to pay for the design of an overpass which will carry Industrial Avenue over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks into the Santa Teresa Industrial Park.
Doña Ana County will receive $1.3M in competitive grant funding under the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Program through the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Doña Ana County project was one of 50 projects in 29 stated awarded this grant. “This is a great opportunity to ensure mobility is improved within the industrial parks,” stated County Manager Fernando Macias. “It is an important priority for our future economic growth.”
This 12-month planning and design project will support future construction of a grade separation that will enhance economic, safety, and business logistics for two multi-acre industrial parks in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. “This industrial park infrastructure is directly responsible for half of New Mexico’s exports to the world,” stated Jerry Pacheco, president of the Border Industrial Association.
With over 750 industrial zoned and developed acres in these two industrial parks, the Santa Teresa project has become one of the most dynamic developments on the border, due to its well-designed master plan and geographic proximity to Mexico's maquila industry. The industrial development in Santa Teresa is the first phase in the creation of a master-planned, bi-national city which will see the establishment of commercial zones.
“The pandemic did not deter applicants this year,” said the Federal Railroad Administration Deputy Administrator Quintin Kendall. “There were 101 applications received.”
Incite Network, a local firm that secures funding, assisted the county with the application process. “The project is vital to the region and was chosen because it will support our growing industrial base. This is but one of many great economic initiatives that the County is supporting. We look forward to continued collaboration for our region,” said Rosalinda Natividad, chief executive officer of Incite Network.
