Career Fair Coming To NMSU Las Cruces

Darren Phillips, NMSU

With more than 100 employers registered, New Mexico State University students and alumni along with community members can attend the 15th annual Career Connections Fair Feb. 4-5. NMSU Career Services will host the two-day event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Corbett Center Student Union throughout the third floor.

“This fair begins the start of the spring recruiting season and the return of employers looking for students for all areas of hiring with strong interest in interns for summer 2020 and fall 2020. Employers are seeking students nine to 12 months in advance of their placement so it is beneficial for all students’ freshmen through alumni and faculty to take part in the fair and interact with the employers,” said Roseanne Bensley, event coordinator and NMSU Career Services associate director.

“Career fairs are excellent venues to meet employers face-to-face to discuss employment and career goals,” she said. “Students would benefit by researching the employers’ websites in advance of the fair and customizing their resumes and uploading a copy into their Handshake account so they are always ready to submit an application for job opportunities. The career fair should be treated like any interview, which means it is important to be prepared and dress appropriately.”

For more information on how to dress for work and job interviews Bensley suggests attendees visit https://www.thebalance.com/clothes-make-the-man-or-woman-524787.

Career Connections will focus on majors in the Colleges of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education (non-teaching) and Health and Social Services Feb. 4. The College of Engineering is co-sponsoring the event Feb. 5, which will highlight majors in computer science, engineering, life/physical sciences, mathematics and technology.
