Santa Fe – Miss Rodeo New Mexico 2015, Kagan Massey, poses with State Senator Gay Kernan (R-Hobbs) who was her first grade teacher and with State Senator Carroll Leavell (R-Carlsbad) in the Senate Chambers today.
Senator Kernan recalled she taught the now 22-year-old when Massey was a first grader at Sanger Elementary school in Hobbs when Kernan was an elementary school teacher. “Kagan was a sweet young child who has grown into a remarkable young woman. It was a delight to see Kagan now as a University student and as Miss Rode New Mexico. I understand she has served in leadership roles in various community service organizations that focus on the growth and development of young women and children. With all of her success and service at such a young age, I imagine her future will be as bright as her smile,” Senator Kernan said.
As Miss Rodeo New Mexico, Massey will travel across the United States representing her home state. She said she is grateful for the opportunity to educate, promote and represent the sport and the Western way of life.
Massey is currently a Junior at Texas Tech University where she is majoring in Media Strategies. Massey says she hopes to pursue a career in Public Relations and Marketing in the Western Industry.
She is the daughter of Greg and Kala Massey of Hobbs, New Mexico.
