Commentary: Republican anti-refugee propaganda? Abominable. God forbid, more Arabs and Islam here?
26 governors including one democrat say they won't allow Syrian refugees into their states (as of 11/17). Susana is also opposed. Governors have no constitutional power to so do - two did ask the Fed to please stop such immigration, however. Today’s award for unchristian/un-american behavior goes to Indiana’s Gov. Pence. He forced Indianapolis’ Catholic Charities - who have held up a family in Syria for three years while vetting them - to send them elsewhere; they ended up in Connecticut. Not Christian charity -just the opposite. Un-americanism reigns under the guise of security needs. These governor’s statements - stop until we know Federal security - already tight - is OK, is demagoguery. Are they the Father Coughlin’s of the 21st century?
I ask - do they change anything except views of malleable Americans? The scale of sectarian conflict overseas and wariness about a strain of Islam is damning and stressful, yes. But do these governors expect the Feds to be perfect on “security"? Let’s say one possible terrorist slipped through border screening. Could happen you know - just ask the French - who have the best anti-terrorism monitoring in the world.
American terrorists. e.g , neo-nazi’s, sovereign citizens, white supremacists, have a worse track record since 9/11 than Islamic extremists. There are many JV Brunn's and Dylann Roofs who kill yet claim to be good Christians. Just ask law enforcement agencies. The incidents of non-Islamic terrorism deaths since 9/11 is almost double (48 - 19 attacks) - Islamic jihadists (26 - 7 attacks) (NYTimes). 382 police departments recently surveyed by the the UNC Triangle for Terrorism and Homeland Security say - 3-1 - that American-grown non-jihadist terrorists must be feared more ! Reality.
