The Mesilla Valley Concert Band will continue a tradition of more than 20 years on July 4th, when it offers a free concert of American music at 10 a.m. at the Atkinson Recital Hall. This year, the band will be joined by the Air National Guard Band of the Southwest, also known as the 531st Air Force Band, which draws members from several states and is conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Eric Patterson. Dr. William Clark, conductor of the Mesilla Valley Concert Band, came to KRWG to talk with Intermezzo host Leora Zeitlin about the concert and some of the composers whose works will be played, including Morton Gould and John Philip Sousa.
