This led to a scholarship at Baylor University, where he continued his studies under renowned cello teacher, Lev Aronson, and prepared for orchestra auditions around the country.
In 1978, Kevin won a position with the Houston Symphony cello section. He toured with the orchestra, performing in some of the world's most famous halls in London, Berlin, Vienna, Tokyo, Singapore, Moscow, and New York’s Carnegie Hall. He worked under the batons of Leonard Bernstein, Michael Tilson-Thomas and Christoph Eschenbach.
In 2018, after 40 years with the Houston Symphony, Kevin retired and moved to Silver City.
Kevin plays a “Matteo Goffriller” model cello made by Lawrence Wilke in 2018.
