Echoes in the Sand: White Sands National Park and the Story of the Southern Tularosa Basin
The Academy for Learning in Retirement’s November 4-part presentations focus on White Sands National Park and the story of the Southern Tularosa Basin. Scott Hayes-Strom, Cultural Resource Program Manager at White Sands National Park will give live presentations on the following dates.
Tuesday, November 4: “From seabed to sand dunes: The geologic story of White Sands”
Thursday, November 6: “Giants in the sand: Megafauna and the first people of the Tularosa Basin”
Tuesday, November 11: “Life on the dunes: The wildlife of the White Sands National Park”
Thursday, November 13: “From salt trails to national treasure: The modern human story of White Sands”
The presentations will be held at the DACC Auditorium, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd, from 10:30 until noon and will also be available as a Zoom broadcast and recorded. Coffee and cookies are available from 9:40 until 10:20 at the Student Resources Center next door. The fee for a single day is $5, $20 (four sessions/month), or $30 (3 months Oct., Nov., Dec., 10 presentations).
