“Arts of the West: Cowboys, Ranching, Music & Poetry"

The January 2022 Exhibit at the Deming Art Center will be an invitational show entitled, “Arts of the West: Cowboys, Ranching, Music & Poetry,” highlighting and showcasing aspects of the categories listed above. The artists include: Robert “Shoofly” Shufelt from New Mexico -an American cowboy artist known for his realistic pencil drawings of contemporary Western culture. “My goal has always been that my drawings will continue to grow in stature,” he has said, “illustrating a cowboy legacy long after I am gone.” JaNeil Anderson- Red Rock, New Mexico - Anderson's intricate painting style, the fine details of oils and her appreciation for color allow her works to capture the moment in time, pulling at your heartstrings as you imagine the story behind the piece. JaNeil has the unique ability of drawing you into her work and you literally find yourself emotionally invested in her art. Jack Walker- a former Deming resident, has forged his talent on the anvil of experience. His earliest influences were ranchers and horsemen and his art is a glimpse into of the daily life of the American Cowboy. The years spent working with cowboys, horses and cattle, bring depth and dimension to each piece he creates and Jack is well known for his detailed and accurate western bronzes. Mel Stone- A resident of Las Cruces will be bringing his rodeo photography to share with us. Steve Zimmer – Author – Zimmer lives outside Cimarron, New Mexico where he writes about western art and ranch life. He is also the author of "For Good or Bad, People of the Cimarron Country;" "Western Animal Heroes, An Anthology of Stories by Ernest Thompson Seton," and "Cowboy Days: Stories of the New Mexico Range." A book signing will be held at the “Meet the Artist” time on Jan 2, 1-3PM The exhibit will feature 4 local artists as well – Painters -Velva Hurt, Dorothy Waddell and Lyn Orona along with Fiber Clay sculptor Janet Bishop. There will be a “Meet the Artist,” Sunday, January 2, 2022, 1-3PM The following weekend on Saturday, January 8 – Mike Moutoux- Cowboy songster and poet from Silver City will perform at the Deming Art Center at 1PM & 3PM, and on Sunday, January 9 – Bob Eller, July McClure & Deb Oliver from Columbus and Deming will perform cowboy songs and music at the Deming Art Center at 1PM & 3PM. The show will be up January 2-29, 2022. Free tickets for these events will be available at the Art Center- each session will be limited to 25 people. The Deming Art Center is located at 100 S.
