Scott Brocato:
Let's start with this; it's an exclusive for you. You're going to be talking with twins Mark and Scott Kelly for their upcoming visit to the Space Hall of Fame there?
Spencer Fordin:
Yes sir, they're both being inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame on October 3rd, but unfortunately neither one is going to be able to come to the induction ceremony. They did both make time for the Alamogordo News. We have a personality profile with both gentlemen. Mark Kelly, of course, is a senator from Arizona. He's a super busy man, so he doesn't have the opportunity to come to the Space Hall of Fame. And his brother Scott, both were astronauts who have contributed quite a bit to the knowledge of future space flight.
Scott Brocato:
And they're twins, which I didn't know Mark had a twin, Scott, that is, Scott Kelly. But what were you were telling me off the air, they did a study of twins in space?
Spencer Fordin:
Yes, interestingly, Scott went to the space station for a year's trip. And while he was there, they did a bunch of experiments on him to see how human beings react to a year's worth of being in space. And while he was there in space, Mark was back home, and they took the opportunity to, since they had access to a brother, a twin brother, to mark how his physiology changed over the course of the year and how Scott differed from being in space.
Scott Brocato:
That's interesting.
Spencer Fordin:
They are, to this point, the only brothers who have flown in orbit.
Scott Brocato:
Well, let's move on to music. Marty Stuart, country star Marty Stuart, is going to be playing the Flickinger this Saturday.
Spencer Fordin:
Yes sir, the five-time Grammy Award winner Marty Stuart and the Superlatives will be here at the Flickinger Center on September 26th. He's a long-time veteran of the country scene. He played with Johnny Cash decades ago, and he played with Bluegrass veterans Flatt and Scruggs. There's a gentleman who's seen and done everything in the world of country music.
Scott Brocato:
And finally, Sunday, it's the Great Global Greyhound Walk. Talk about that.
Spencer Fordin:
Yes, this is an event that is all over the world for sighthounds and breeds like the greyhound. But the greyhound around the world is used as an animal who races. And once they race, or once a city gets rid of its dog tracks, they have all these dogs who need adoption. So this event is trying to raise community awareness about greyhounds and dogs like them and how they can be a great dog to brighten your home. And last year, there were only three dogs as part of this event here. It's not a huge event in Alamogordo, but we're trying to raise community awareness and get more people out there to support the sighthounds.
Scott Brocato:
Lots of stuff coming up. Where can folks read about it?
Spencer Fordin:
You can read it all about it at alamogordonews.com.
