Sometimes a job hunt can make you dizzy, especially if you’re not exactly sure what you’d like to do or even know for what you might be qualified. Thanks to the New Mexico Workforce Connection job fair on August 13, 2021, at the Las Cruces Convention Center, Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) got a chance to talk to the job seekers to learn about all the opportunities that LCU has to offer and how to apply.
“The City of Las Cruces does not take any paper applications, it’s all done through an online system,” said LCU Business Systems Analyst Jeff Dillard.
LCU may offer more than job seekers may think. Some positions keep natural gas service safe, make sure that water comes from our taps, pick up solid waste from our streets, and make sure our sewage lines flow and are processed as clean water for return back to the Rio Grande.
But, there are other positions, such as maintaining the computerized systems that monitor wells or lift stations, answering the call from residents when they smell gas or even engineering positions that design projects that enhance the quality of life in the city.
LCU also offers college assistance to new incoming or current, full-time students pursuing an Associate Degree in Water Technology at Doña Ana Community College. The Las Cruces Utilities Internship Program is a competitive program that pays for tuition and other reasonable education-related expenses, including a monthly stipend and paid on-the-job training to assist with educational and living expenses. “We want to grow our already diverse and multi-cultural workforce at LCU and want to seek out those who may bring new and innovative solutions to serving our customers,” said LCU Staffing Specialist Diamond D. Medina. “The City has great benefits like group health insurance, group life insurance, supplemental life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and 457 Deferred Compensation.”
