Victim of Crash Identified as 20-year-old Las Cruces Man

The pedestrian killed Saturday evening after being struck by two vehicles on Telshor Boulevard has been positively identified as 20-year-old Adam Salas of Las Cruces.

Salas’ next of kin have been properly notified of his death.

About 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, Las Cruces police and fire were dispatched to a crash involving a pedestrian on north Telshor Boulevard near Summit Court. First responders arrived to find a young man suffering from multiple injuries. He was transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was not carrying identification or any documentation that could help identify him. Police took fingerprints of the victim, but a nationwide database did not return a match.

On Monday, Dec. 16, police were contacted by Salas’ family who were concerned for his welfare and reported him missing. Police were in contact with his family and had reason to believe Salas may be the victim. Police now have enough evidence to confirm Salas was the victim.

Traffic investigators believe Salas jumped a chain-link fence that separates I-25 and Telshor Boulevard before trying to cross Telshor. As Salas crossed Telshor, from west to east, he was struck by a southbound Lexus IS 300. The impact knocked Salas into the northbound lanes where he was struck by another vehicle. Both drivers and several witnesses remained on scene and were cooperative with investigators.

No charges are expected in this incident.
