Dr. Kyle Schumacher is on the phone, easing the concerns of a patient’s family, in particular the care for a drain tube. She requests that the family makes sure the canine patient does not lick the tubing, as a dog might do.
It’s a busy veterinary clinic at 701 South Valley Drive, with a busy New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) contractor ramping up its final phase of Valley Drive road reconstruction outside the clinic doors.
But Dr. Kyle is not rattled: “The good news is that we’re a long-standing clinic with a dedicated staff that goes above and beyond for our patients and their owners.” She’s the daughter of Dr. William Schumacher who started the clinic 40 years ago and retired in 2015.
“Parking might be an issue when the construction is right in front of our door,” she said, “But even with trailers coming in and out, we’re open for full services.” That’s from the tiniest creature to the largest beloved beast. Those services include laser treatments for sports injuries or worn muscles, and surgeries for large and small animals.
“We also get referrals for advanced dental care, along with orthopedic treatments and endoscopies on companion animals,” said Dr. Kyle. Ultrasound, electrocautery, and digital X-Ray (in-house and portable) are also available. Their truck with a Portavet box is ready for house calls, stable calls and farm calls.
Schumacher Large and Small Animal Clinic is available for emergencies for established clients 24/7 by calling (575) 524-2894. They will also scan a lost or stray pet to see if it’s been “chipped” free of charge. Phase 1 and Phase 3 of the NMDOT Valley Drive road reconstruction project are now complete and open to traffic; scheduled completion of Phase 2 is early 2020.
