"Art With All Your Heart" Event Coming To Lynn Middle School In Las Cruces

Art With All Your Heart, an exhibit and silent auction of work by Lynn Middle School art students, will be presented at the school cafeteria Thursday, March 15, from 5:30-7:30 pm.

Lynn Middle School (LMS), located at 950 S. Walnut St., is the only art magnet program in Las Cruces. A magnet school is a public school offering special instruction and programs, this one in art, not available elsewhere.

Enhancing the event will be border artist Laura Turon who will display her mobile art installation called Paradox Traveling Art. Ms. Turon transformed and revived a retired school bus into a unique and mesmerizing art experience. “I want to take art to spaces that have limited access to museums, galleries and workshops [and] make it accessible” said Turon.  LMS students and community members attending the art show will have the chance to experience the bus for a small donation fee to benefit the LMS art magnet.

Stephanie Preciado, lead art teacher for the program that attracts the most talented art students from the district, has organized Art With All Your Heart to raise money to support her students in participating in the end-of-the-year art trip. Proceeds from the sale of the student work, donated goods, gift certificates and professional art will help fund the trip.

This year's trip is to New Orleans, LA, where students will attend the Jazz and Art museums, the Audubon Aquarium where students will get to participate in a shark dissection and the Audubon Zoo. Students will also visit the Music Box Village, a collection of musical architectural structures created by Swoon, street artist and activist, and sound engineers.

Preciado is also working towards seeking sponsorship to bring Turon back to Lynn Middle School for an art workshop with her students. The goal of the workshop is to teach students to connect math concepts and drawing to create a Paradox drawing. Turon will combine the drawings to create a collaborative mural. Turon has been working with youth in El Paso, Juarez and surrounding area through grants and sponsorships.
