Commentary: Ceil Levatino, city councilor for District 6, has announced her plan to run for re-election in the upcoming November race.
“Serving the community the past four years, I have worked to ensure we have the resources to make our community a better place to live, work, and raise a family. District Six is the fastest growing district in the city and it is imperative that the person representing this area understands the importance of balancing residential and commercial growth ,” said Levatino.
During Ceil's four years of service, residents have seen the construction of the East Mesilla Public Safety Complex, the installation of a much needed red light on Roadrunner Parkway, pedestrian activated warning lights at the crossing to Veteran's Park, and the new Walmart Neighborhood store at the corner of Lohman Ave. and Sonoma Ranch Blvd. Streets have been repaved and in response to resident's concerns, stop signs and other traffic calming techniques have been instituted to make their neighborhoods safer . Also, a multitude of new restaurants and businesses have opened in the District along S. Telshor Blvd., Lohman Ave. and on the East Mesa.
“As a former nurse, I was particularly pleased to see each of our hospitals open full service urgent care centers in my District. As a city councilor, access to health care is a priority so residents in my District do not have to travel for miles to see a medical professional,” said Levatino.
“Much has been accomplished but there is still more to do. I will continue working to see our downtown and historic district revitalized. Our area is perfectly suited to take advantage of New Mexico's booming film and television production industry. A sound stage will expand our economic base and allow our talented and well trained graduates to remain in and contribute to our community. Las Cruces has a great future and I want to continue being a part of making that future a reality. It has been an honor to serve and I humbly ask the residents of District 6 for their continued support,” said Levatino.
