EL PASO - The 2016 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of El Paso (Makingstrideswalk.org/ElPaso) has been set for Saturday, Oct. 15 at Cohen Stadium, 9700 Gateway Blvd. N.
The 8th annual El Paso event will begin registration at 7 a.m., with opening ceremonies set for 8 a.m. and the 5K walk set for 9 a.m. The walk is free and open to the public.
The American Cancer Society created Making Strides Against Breast Cancer community walks in 1993 to build awareness and generate funds to fight the disease across the nation. Since then, more than 12 million supporters have raised more than $750 million nationwide. Last year 3,000 walkers in El Paso helped raise more than $85,000.
According to the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2016, an estimated 246,660 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 40,450 will die from the disease this year.
“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a wonderful community event honoring breast cancer survivors and helping raise awareness against this disease,” said Martha Silva, ACS staff partner for the walk. “We’re excited to hold our walk this year at Cohen Stadium, and we hope people from our Sun City will join our cause.”

About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of more than 3 million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society's efforts have contributed to a 20 percent decline in cancer death rates in the U.S. since 1991, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to our progress, nearly 14 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year. We're finding cures as the nation’s largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more.
