LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Today, District Attorney Mark D’Antonio announced that a grand jury has indicted a Las Cruces man accused of shooting a Roto-Rooter employee.

John Haynie, 69, was indicted on one count of attempt to commit first-degree murder, a second-degree felony.

The incident happened on March 31 on the 1600 block of Gladys Drive in Las Cruces. According to investigators with the Las Cruces Police Department, the victim was shot while working on the defendant’s sink.

The victim was transported to a hospital in El Paso, Texas and treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Meanwhile, the defendant was taken into custody by LCPD’s SWAT and Hostage Negotiation teams after a two-hour standoff. Investigators believe he was intoxicated at the time of the shooting.
