More Than A Blonde Wig Needed: Man Suspected of Threatening Wife Located in Disguise

Arthur M. Orozco, the 33-year-old man suspected of brandishing a knife and threating to kill his estranged wife earlier this week, was in disguise when police located him on Thursday afternoon.

Orozco, of the 900 block of east Madrid Avenue, is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Orozco was wearing a blond hairpiece when he was located by Las Cruces Police officers shortly afternoon Thursday in the area near Kansas Avenue and Esperanza Street.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, March 20, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of a domestic disturbance at the home of Orozco’s estranged wife on the 1900 block of north Solano Drive. Officers learned that Orozco had gone to the woman’s home, uninvited, and the two got into an argument.

Orozco allegedly armed himself with a small knife when the woman went upstairs to check on her two children. Detectives believe that’s when Orozco threatened to kill the woman and her children.

Detectives learned the woman was able to escape the home and call 911 while being chased by Orozco. Police located the woman at another site but Orozco fled the area and was nowhere to be found. Orozco is also suspected of slashing the tires to the woman’s vehicle that evening.

Orozco was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is being held on a cash-only bond set at $100,000.
