Mom Accused Of Leaving Kid At Crash Site Is Booked Into Jail

A 36-year-old woman accused of leaving behind her child after an Albuquerque freeway crash has been booked into jail on suspicion of abandonment or abuse of a child.

Georgette Vigil was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque on Wednesday after being treated for injuries stemming from the crash.

Police say Vigil fled Monday after apparently losing control of her SUV and hitting a concrete wall on Interstate 40.

Her 18-month-old was found at the scene in a car seat that was thrown from the vehicle. The child sustained injuries that weren't life-threatening.

Vigil was taken into custody 2 miles from the crash and treated at a hospital.

Online court records don't show whether Vigil has an attorney who could comment on the allegations against her.
