New Mexico State Fair Hosts Green Chile Stew Competition Tuesday

It wouldn’t be the State Fair without the various Food Preparation Contests and it sure wouldn’t be the New Mexico State Fair without the chile contests!

This year’s Green Chile Stew Competition will be held on Tuesday, September 15, starting at 10:30 a.m.in the Home Arts area of the Creative Arts Building.  Judging will take place at approximately 4:30 p.m.

This year’s competitors are:  Michelle Cogburn from Moriarty; and from Albuquerque:  Suzi Darensburg, Rosalie Cordova, Becki Lorimer, Charles and Stephanie Poole, Amy Suman, and John Saunders. The competition is sponsored by the Frontier Restaurant.

“This competition is one we are particularly proud of and excited about at the fair, because green chile stew is uniquely representative of the great cuisine for which our state is famous.  The competition will be fierce with these talented cooks testing their skills to make the best batch of green chile stew,” said Dan Mourning, New Mexico State Fair General Manager.

Prizes include ribbons, cash awards and gift certificates.  For more information, please visitwww.exponm.com, and enter the State Fair site at the top of the screen, click on Participants, Competitions, then Home Arts.  The New Mexico State Fair runs through Sunday, September 20.
