State police are investigating a fatal shooting in the southeastern New Mexico city of Jal.
Jal police say they received a 911 call about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday about a shooting that occurred on South Second Street.
When officers responded to the scene, they discovered the body of 21-year-old Mathew Lujan with an apparent gunshot wound.
Police say the Jal resident was transported to a hospital in Kermit, Texas where he later died from his injuries.
No other details were immediately released.
Jal police asked for assistance to investigate the shooting.
New Mexico State Police say its Investigations Bureau is conducting the investigation as a suspicious death.
