A Las Cruces woman suspected of setting fire to a T-shirt in a department store at the Mesilla Valley Mall has been charged with arson.
Robin Appleton, 46, was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of arson.
Las Cruces police and fire investigators learned that on Feb. 7, 2015, someone set fire to a T-shirt inside a dressing room at the Sear’s department store. The fire destroyed most of the shirt but did little damage to anything else.
A fire investigator reviewed video footage from store security cameras which recorded a woman, later identified as Appleton, enter the dressing room with the T-shirt and leave a short while later without it.
Investigators are familiar with Appleton and positively identified her as the suspect on the video.
Appleton was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $2,000.
