Las Cruces Manufacturing Plant Lays Off 70

A manufacturer of radiators and cooling systems has shuttered its Las Cruces operation, leaving 70 workers unemployed.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that Hibbing, Minn.-based L&M Radiator closed earlier this month.

Jerry Norlander, a spokesman for the Las Cruces plant, says there are a few remaining employees but all workers have been let go.

The company first set up shop in Las Cruces in 2011 in what was once a Coco-Cola Bottling Co. building.

Davin Lopez, president and CEO of the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance, says a decline in orders and contracting of the mining industry in China led to a downturn.

L&M Radiator builds cooling systems for large machinery, buses and oil field equipment.

It has facilities in Mexico, Australia and Germany.
