Holloman Hosts Community Day May 18, But No Air Show Due To Budget Cuts

Holloman Air Force Base

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – The 49th Wing will host a Community Day on the Holloman AFB flightline Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The event is free, open to the public, and will highlight the men and women of Holloman AFB through this year’s theme, “A day in the life of a Holloman Airman.”  The Community Day will feature static displays of the F-22 Raptor, MQ-1 Predator, MQ-9 Reaper, T-38 Talon, F-4 Phantom, German Air Force Tornado, and more.

“This Community Day will be the first time since October 2011 that we open our gates to our neighbors in the Tularosa Basin,” said Col. Andrew Croft, 49th Wing commander.  “I hope they visit Holloman to see personally what our great Airmen are accomplishing here on a daily basis. Our nation has made some painful adjustments due to budgetary concerns, but community outreach is one of my top priorities as a commander, and I take the responsibility very seriously to thank our community for the support they’ve given Holloman since 1942.”

This year’s event will not feature aerial demonstrations due to flying restrictions in place throughout the Air Force given current budgetary constraints.

“Holloman is committed to carrying out our national defense missions while dealing with the impacts of sequestration. One of those impacts is a suspension of aerial demonstrations, which is why we’re having a base-wide, mission-centered day with static displays and work center demonstrations,” Croft said.  “I personally invite you and your families to come out to Holloman on May 18 and see what a day in the life of a Holloman Airman is really like.”

Gates will open to the public at 9:30 a.m. May 18.  For more information about the Community Day, visit the event web page at www.holloman.af.mil/hollomancommunityday.asp.  Please contact the 49th Wing Public Affairs office at 49WG.PAoffice@holloman.af.mil or 575-572-7381 with questions.
