LAS CRUCES– Reminder: The speed limit on a portion of Interstate 10 will soon be increased.
The decision to increase the speed limit from 70 MPH to 75 MPH from the Texas state line to Mesquite interchange (exit 151) was made following a speed study by the New Mexico Department of Transportation. An additional driving lane and safety devices were recently added to this stretch of the interstate.
“The change in speed is scheduled to be in affect by Wednesday October 31, 2012,” stated Trent Doolittle, District One Engineer for the New Mexico Department of Transportation. “In addition, the change in speed will allow motorists to travel at a regulated speed on a roadway designed for the increase from 65 to 75 MPH. However, with the change, the department continues to express the need for motorists to drive the posted speed limit and to proceed with caution.”
Until the new signs are installed, drivers must continue to obey the posted speed limit of 65 MPH.
