Sony Pictures Pulling Out Of New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque is losing Sony Pictures Imageworks this July when the company's lease expires at its downtown offices.

Sony spokesman Don Levy declined to discuss reasons for the closure and said the nearly 60 workers will be offered jobs at other Sony facilities in Canada and the Los Angeles-area.

The studio is currently doing post-production and visual effects on "Men in Black 3? and "The Amazing Spider-Man."

New Mexico Film Office Director Nick Maniatis tells the Albuquerque Journal (http://bit.ly/ycSv9J ) Sony's decision to leave New Mexico is not a total surprise.

Maniatis says it came down to economics with Canada offering better incentives.
