Las Cruces High FFA State Champs

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The Las Cruces High School FFA Farm Business Management team was the 2011 state champion for New Mexico, and competed at the 84th national FFA Convention, said team advisor Phillip Beard.

At the national convention, held October 19-22 in Indianapolis, team members Emily Russell and Jeremy Witte received gold emblem ranking in the national Farm Bureau Business Management Career Development Event, while Cody Howard received a silver emblem ranking. Jeremy Witte placed 14th individually. The team as a whole placed 17th, which earned them a silver emblem ranking, said Beard.

The event "is designed to test the ability of students to apply economic principles and concepts in analyzing farm and ranch business management decisions. Participants respond to questions concerning economic principles in farm business management as well as a problem-solving analysis section," according to a national FFA news release.

Formerly known as Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization provides agricultural education to 540,379 student members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,489 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
