By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A 15-year-old Las Cruces boy has been charged for stabbing his mother's boyfriend during a Sunday evening incident.

Martin Escobedo is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence. Escobedo was detained and is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.

At around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Foster Road where a verbal argument had escalated into a physical confrontation between Escobedo and the 39-year-old man.

Detectives learned that at some point during the altercation Escobedo left the room where the fight occurred, but returned with a folding knife and stabbed the man once on his buttocks. Escobedo then exited the residence and disposed of the knife.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Escobedo was located and interviewed by detectives on Jan. 4. He was subsequently detained and charged with the crime.
