Early Childhood Education and Care Department helps with childcare assistance

Elizabeth Groginsky, ECECD Cabinet Secretary

Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES a la comunidad, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra spoke with New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) Cabinet Secretary, Elizabeth Groginsky, about the new agency which opened in July 2020. Remote learning creates new needs for New Mexico families.

ECECD was created by Senate Bill 22, sponsored by Senator Michael Padilla and Representative Linda Trujillo, in the 2019 legislative session. The state is expanding childcare access to help families find childcare through a Child Care Resource and Referral line - 800-691-9067; online at NewMexicoKids.org. Families can also contact their ECECD eligibility specialist by phone or email and at nmececd.org or Southwest Regional Education Cooperatives - swrecnm.org to let them know they now need full-time care.
