DACA - Part of Cultural Diversity at DACC & NMSU
Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with members of the Doña Ana Community College (DACC) Cultural Diversity Committee of the Faculty Council, Assistant English Professor Debasmita Roychowdhury; and English Instructor Federico Almarez. The Committee’s mission is to serve, highlight and promote the rich cultural diversity of the institution.
For several years DACC’s Cultural Diversity Committee has worked to honor, celebrate, and recognize the cultural diversity in our community through cultural events, and now a new Speaker Series. The first event of the Cultural Diversity Speaker Series was “Borderland Educational Issues Colloquium.” Almarez is especially aware of our cultural diversity and borderland educational issues with his Dreamer students, DACA recipients, in his classes. He says it is important for students to also attend and participate in these events. Roychowdhury says that “Borderland education and other related issues must be at the forefront of the national debate.”
Their next cultural event, “The Cultural Experience: A trip around the world in six hours,” is planned for April 14th; more information is available at DACC.nmsu.edu; while there you can also find more information and resources for DACA students.
