NM Pharmacists Allowed to Prescribe Contraceptives

Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with local volunteer leaders for “Young Women United,” Monica Girón and Charlene Bencomo to tell us about new medical regulations that recently went into effect in New Mexico.

According to the New Mexico Pharmacists Association, New Mexico has joined three other states, California, Colorado and Oregon to allow trained and certified pharmacists to prescribe oral contraceptives. Bencomo says it is particularly important to women in our rural communities who have limited access to physicians to obtain a prescription.

Young Women United is a non-profit organization based in Albuquerque. For more information more information visit their website www.youngwomenunited.org; and on Facebook at Young Women United NM.
