October 30, 2015 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with La Semilla Food Center, Co-Founder and Director, Aaron Sharratt. La Semilla Food Center is a non-profit community farm in Anthony, New Mexico which has been planting seeds in the community since 2010, solely devoted to fostering a healthy Paso del Notre region food system. “La Semilla” in Spanish means the seed.

Sharratt says that at La Semilla thousands of elementary and middle school students are taught how to grow and cook fresh food each year, while operating a 14 acre education and demonstration farm. He says there is no better way to teach and educate than to get your hands dirty and plant a seed yourself.

La Semilla Food Center will be sharing their harvest at their 3rd Annual Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration this Sunday, November 1st, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at La Semilla Community Farm, 350 Our Way Road, off of Hwy. 478 and Joy Drive, between Berino and Anthony. Bring a pot-luck-dish to share. For more information visit their website www.lasemillafoodcenter.org.
