UPDATE: Las Cruces Police Seek Information On Lohman Avenue Shooting

  Las Cruces police are asking for the public’s help in providing information that can help identify the suspect, or suspects, in Monday evening’s shooting on Lohman Avenue that resulted in the death of 40-year-old Ezekiel Diaz.

 Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, Las Cruces police and fire were dispatched to the report of a possible gunshot victim on the roadway near the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Walnut Street.
 
Police arrived to find a man, later identified as Diaz, on the roadway near the driver’s-side door of a black sport utility vehicle. The SUV was stopped on Lohman facing east. 
Preliminary information from the investigation indicates Diaz was struck by at least one gunshot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Police closed the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Walnut Street for most of Monday evening while detectives investigated and mapped the scene.
 
Las Cruces-Doña Ana County Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 cash reward for information that helps identify the suspect or suspects. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to immediately call Las Cruces police at (575) 526-0795. Tips can be provided anonymously by calling Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477. Tips can also be provided through the Las Cruces Crime Stoppers app, “P3 TIPS.” The app is available through the App Store on most devices.
 
Those who provide tips through Crime Stoppers do not have to leave their own name and will remain completely anonymous.

Las Cruces police are investigating a possible shooting that occurred near the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Walnut Street.
 
Police and fire were dispatched to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16. No additional details are available at this time.
 
The intersection of Lohman Avenue and Walnut Street is closed during the investigation. Additionally, Lohman Avenue between Baca Road and Walton Boulevard is closed. Walnut Street, just north and south of Lohman, is also closed.

Motorists should avoid the area until the investigation is complete. The intersection is likely to be closed for much of Monday evening and possibly into the early-morning hours of Tuesday.
