Bill McCamley-New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions Secretary

The New Mexico State Senate unanimously confirmed Bill McCamley as the Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions with a vote of 35-0 on Monday, February 4, 2019. Here is a statement from the Workforce Solutions Department:

The Senate commended the new Cabinet Secretary on his enthusiasm and commitment to tackling many of the workforce issues and developing real pragmatic solutions to the state’s workforce needs.

“He’s clear about protecting workers and about making sure that wage theft and related issues get addressed in a robust fashion,” Governor Lujan Grisham said, “In addition, he is dedicated to advancing apprenticeship and vocational training in our state.”

“I’m very positive about the places we can go by working together to make an impact with job creation in our state,” said Secretary McCamley, “We will be continuing and strengthening our outreach efforts with the business community, chambers of commerce, economic development, and education institutions.”

Secretary McCamley served as state representative from 2012 through 2018. He has been a statewide leader in job creation activities like workforce training, border trade and cannabis legalization. A graduate of both Mayfield High School and New Mexico State University, where he earned a degree in government, McCamley also graduated from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University with a master’s degree in public policy in 2003. Born in Korea, and the son of a U.S. Army service member, McCamley served as a Dona Ana County Commissioner and as executive director of the New Mexico Rural Development Council, where he worked with small communities across the state on job creation, education, and housing projects.
