New Mexico State Police Officers Save Woman about to Jump from Bridge

Tuesday at approximately 9:00 a.m., New Mexico State Police officers responded to Interstate 25 around mile post 190 near Belen, NM. for a female sitting on the Interstate 25 south bound on ramp overpass ledge.

Officers arrived to find a female in obvious mental distress sitting on the ledge of the overpass flyover that crossed Interstate 25.  As officers attempted to speak with the female and coax her off the ledge of the overpass, she began to jump from the ledge.  New Mexico State Police officer, Sergio Corral saw the female positioning herself to jump off the ledge.  Officer Corral was able to quickly pull the woman to safety before she could jump.

“The swift actions of Officer Corral and the other officers on scene surely saved this woman’s life”, said New Mexico State Police Chief Tim Johnson.  “Despite everything else going on in our state, my officers are still out there responding to calls for service from our citizens and saving lives”.

After pulling the female to safety she was comforted by officers and taken to a waiting ambulance for evaluation.  Interstate 25 was shut down for a short period of time while the incident unfolded with the assistance of the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office.
