Las Cruces Crash Closes Portion of Eastbound Highway 70

Las Cruces police are investigating a two-vehicle crash on Highway 70 that injured four and closed a portion of the roadway on Thursday afternoon.

The crash was reported shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, east of Mesa Grande Boulevard in the eastbound lanes of Highway 70 and Bataan Memorial East.

Preliminary information from the investigation indicates a white Infinity XJ35 and a gray Chevrolet Colorado were both traveling east on Highway 70. Shortly after both vehicles passed Mesa Grande, investigators believe the Infinity struck the Colorado forcing it to roll off the highway and onto the frontage road. The pickup came to a rest near the 5600 block of Bataan Memorial East.

Four occupants of the Colorado were injured and transported to a local hospital. Their injuries are considered to be non-life-threatening. The two occupants of the Infinity escaped injury.

The crash closed both eastbound lanes of Highway 70 beginning at the Mesa Grande exit and both eastbound lanes of Bataan Memorial East at Sciortino Lane. All eastbound lanes of traffic are expected to be open by 5 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing. Citations are pending.

Las Cruces police encourage motorists to always drive with caution and particularly on congested roadways.
