Continuity of Operations for Las Cruces Community Development Department

The safety and wellbeing of our residents is a top priority for Council and the leadership in Las Cruces. As such and consistent with and in support of direction from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, who issued a public health emergency in New Mexico, and the New Department of Health the City of Las Cruces Community Development Department continues to operate Monday through Friday but has implemented several operational changes.

The Building Permits and Business Registrations lobby is closed to the public in the Community Development Department, at City Hall, 700 N. Main St. The lobby closure is to limit exposure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Community Development Department has staff on essential designation, including: Administration, Permit Technicians, all trade inspectors, Planning, Global Information Systems and Community Improvement. Those City services are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for essential staffing. All public hearings coordinated through the Community Development Department are canceled and will be rescheduled.

Permits and business registrations are operational and available online at: https://aca.accela.con/lascruces/Default.aspx.

The Community Development Department continues to offer online services for:

  • Application submittal for Commercial and Residential permits and Business Registrations.

  • Pre-application meetings conducted via “Go to Meeting” or conference call.

  • Issuance of building permits.

  • Checking the status of your project permits.

  • Inspection requests.

  • Interactive video inspection (when an inspector is requested).

  • Payment submittal.

In-person visits with Community Development Department staff will be conducted by appointment. Any in-person visits will be conducted in City Hall Conference Room 1158. A sign-in sheet will be at the entrance to Conference Room 1158 and each visitor will be required to provide their name and a cell phone number on the sheet. Community Development Department staff asks that all visitors wait in their vehicle or on the entry patio in front of City Hall.

Community Development Department staff will call the cell phone number provided by the visitor on the sign-in sheet. In-person visits with Community Development Department will be limited to one person at a time.

These operational changes will continue until further notice.
