Speak No Evil - A Tribute to Wayne Shorter: A Must-See Concert Event

Las Cruces, New Mexico - Music lovers are in for a treat as the NMSU Music Department hosts the highly anticipated concert event "Speak No Evil - A Tribute to Wayne Shorter" on Thursday, September 21st, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will take place at the Atkinson Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.

Wayne Shorter is one of the greatest tenor saxophone players of all time and has been awarded 11 Grammy Awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz, and out of his over 200 compositions, many have become standards of jazz repertoire.

The concert will feature two amazing tenor saxophone players, Josh Carter and Abel Mireles. Josh Carter, originally from Alamogordo, has played on the professional circuit in New York for many years and has come home to share what he has learned with students in the area. Born and raised in Juarez, Abel Mireles has quickly grown a reputation in the Southwest and the New York area. Mireles released his own solo album, Animo, in 2022. Attendees can expect an unforgettable evening of world-class jazz music as the performers pay tribute to the legendary Wayne Shorter through their unique interpretations of his classic compositions.

"We're excited to be hosting the talented musicians Josh Carter and Abel Mireles for this tribute concert to Wayne Shorter," said Lincoln Larsen - Graduate Assistant for the NMSU Music Department. "This concert is a must-see event for jazz enthusiasts and music lovers alike."
