Opera UTEP FEMMES FATALES
EL PASO, TX – Opera UTEP returns to Magoffin Auditorium April 26 and 27 for an evening of favorites from French and French-inspired grand opera. They are joined by the UTEP Symphony Orchestra led by EPSO director Bohuslav Rattay, and the award-winning UTEP Dance Team led by Leslie Lopez.
The 90-minute program is called FEMMES FATALES and features selections from CARMEN and ROMEO AND JULIET that will have you tapping your toes and maybe singing along. In the second half, the Opera UTEP student singers take on comic and tragic scenes by Massenet, Donizetti, Rossini, and Verdi.
All are invited for a pre-show discussion by Women’s and Gender Studies director, Dr. Hilda Ontiveros, who will explore the theme of the evening, “Femmes Fatales,” and a “woman’s place.”
The performance is produced and directed by Cherry Duke, with guest directors Jay Stratton and Rebecca Frost Mayer from the UTEP Department of Theatre and Dance, and Leslie Lopez from the UTEP Dance Team.
