SWOP, CN-PCE and LCHC, organizations actively engaged in non-partisan civic engagement since 2003, will again be bringing voters to engage in the democratic process. We recognize that being civically informed on candidates and the issues that impact on us daily is important to creating the quality of life that all citizens deserve.
“We’re proud to host one of the longest-running series of candidate forums in the county, thanks to our members who look forward to organizing them every year,” said SWOP Executive Director George Lujan
“We wish we could host forums in all our municipalities and communities from Hatch to Sunland, but since the pandemic bringing people together has been more of a challenge and our membership has either moved on or no longer want to engage because of the extreme divisiveness,” said Arturo Uribe, SWOP Organizer, and co-founder of the informal group Center for Non-Partisan Civic Engagement. “We want to change that and create safe, respectful places for people to engage. We look forward to recruiting new members as we continue to work with our elected officials to bring collective ideas and positive change to our communities.”
Victor Gallegos, business owner and founder of the newly formed organization Las Cruces Hispanic Culture, will host the forums at Nopalitos restaurant and Galeria shares. “I created our organization to represent the people of my community who are often overlooked and not invited to the table to share our ideas and concerns when it comes to the need in the district I live in,” says Gallegos. “We’re bringing the working-class people together to have that voice.”
