The week-long film event will showcase films that explore the bomb and it’s legacy in cinema, commemorating the Manhattan Project and the Trinity test, and the anniversaries of the bombing of Hiroshima, and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945, respectively. The curated selection of films serves as a reminder of the significance of the atomic bomb and its ongoing implications for society.

The films culminate upon the screening of Christopher Nolan’s epic historical drama "Oppenheimer" (August 11-24), followed by Wes Anderson’s newest film, "Asteroid City" (August 25-31).

“Atomic Fest” is this year’s major fundraiser for the Mesilla Valley Film Society, which has struggled to keep the Fountain Theatre financially afloat after two years of shuttering during the COVID-19 pandemic.
