UNM Relocates Campus Cats Living Near College Of Fine Arts

The University of New Mexico has moved two cats off campus to protect them from a construction site.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that the cats became known as the unofficial mascots of the College of Fine Arts. They often lounged on top of cars and one student built a wooden shelter for them.

The campus community that watched after and fed the cats recently moved two of them to Mandy's Farm, a nonprofit in the South Valley. They were concerned that the felines could get hurt living near a construction site.

UNM staffer Judi Mersereau says she a third cat, "Stevie," evaded capture.

Mersereau, who has been feeding the cats for the past decade, says she will miss seeing them walking on campus with their tails intertwined.
