In a historical period known for propriety and prudishness, the American West’s attitudes toward prostitution often strayed from those norms, providing some women who braved the frontier a means of economic well-being and empowerment. Silver City historian Liz Michols will present the stories of three madams – Bessie, Lottie and Millie – in her presentation for the Friends of the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum November Culture Series.
