Las Cruces Board of Education Selects Ralph Ramos as Interim Superintendent

Ralph Ramos

The Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education chose Ralph Ramos to fill the position of interim superintendent Monday night. Here is a statement from LCPS:

The decision came after the tragic loss of Dr. Karen Trujillo, who died Feb. 25.

“What an honor to be able to serve in honor of Dr. Karen Trujillo,” Ramos said following the decision. “I definitely learned from her, and appreciate the opportunity to serve our students and families.”

Board members expressed their concern for continuing Trujillo’s compassionate leadership during a difficult time, and felt that Ramos possessed similar qualities as Trujillo.

“One of Dr. Trujillo’s greatest qualities is that she regarded us as team members,” said Carol Cooper, Vice Chair for the LCPS Board of Education. “She regarded anyone who had a connection with children as a team member, and I see that in Mr. Ramos.”

Ramos is currently the principal at Camino Real Middle School. The board unanimously chose Ramos, who will get an additional $16,354 prorated salary in addition to his current salary of $100,938. Under the contract, Ramos will serve as interim superintendent effective March 2, 2021 to June 30, 2021 or until the board hires a permanent superintendent.
