The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department continues to observe its Phase 2 status for parks and recreational programs that follows COVID-19 safe practices and the State Public Health Order (https://cv.nmhealth.org/wp-
1. Wearing face coverings in public settings except when eating, drinking, or swimming.
2. Practicing social distancing.
3. Limiting the numbers of people gathering to 10 or less.
As the Governor’s Office and New Mexico Department of Health begin slowly lifting pandemic restrictions, the Parks and Recreation Department will adjust its Phase 2 plan accordingly to reopen more areas and services while remaining in compliance with the Governor’s public health order.
The following information is current as of Monday, August 31. Parks and Recreation Department updates are available at www.las-cruces.org/
Open trails and public parks – the following are currently open with restrictions outlined for wearing masks or face coverings (to be worn in public settings even while exercising per current public health order), group size and social distancing:
· All City trails
· Klein Park (Council District 1)
· Tony Gomez Park/Frenger Park (Council District 2)
· Las Cruces Dog Park (Council District 3)
· La Llorona Park (Council District 4)
· Twin Parks (Council District 5)
· Desert Trails Community Park (Council District 6)
Pools - The Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center, 1401 E. Hadley Ave. and Frenger Pool, 800 Parkview Dr. will implement fall/winter hours of operation beginning Tuesday, September 8 in accordance with the Governor’s Emergency Public Health Order still in place and New Mexico Department of Health safe practices.
Fall/winter pool hours are as follows:
· Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center – Pool sessions will continue to be offered by reservation only. All current COVID-19 guidelines are still in place. Reservations can be made 24 hours in advance by calling 575/541-2782.
o Fall/Winter Hours (Effective Sept. 8):
o 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday – Friday
o 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 pm. Saturday
o Closed Sunday
· Frenger Pool – Pool sessions will continue to be offered by reservation only. All current COVID-19 guidelines are still in place. Reservations can be made 24 hours in advance by calling 575/541-2782.
o Fall/Winter Hours (Effective Sept. 8):
o 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday - Friday
o Closed Saturday and Sunday
· Covid-19 guidelines in place at pool facilities:
Regional Aquatic Center
o Limited lane and channel use and gym use by reservation only
o Mask or face coverings must be worn while exercising in the gym
o Masks do not need to be worn while swimming
Frenger Pool
o Limited lane use by reservation only
o Masks do not need to be worn while swimming
Pickleball/Tennis Courts – Pilot program is currently under review – more updates will be coming soon. At present, limited courts are available by reservation. Reservations will be taken by phone call only, 24 hours in advance, between 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. at 575/541-2563. (Online reservations will not be available due to limited capacity.) Lions Park tennis courts, 701 W Picacho Ave.
o Sessions run 7:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:45 p.m.
o Monday through Saturday.
· Metro Verde Park tennis courts, 6013 Atlas St.
o Open play
o Dawn to dusk
Closed specialty parks and facilities until further notice:
· City Parks (except those designated open; no services including water fountains and restrooms)
· Archery Range
· Skate Park
· BMX Track
· Athletic Ballfields
· East Mesa Recreation Center
· Frank O’Brien Papen Center
· Meerscheidt Recreation Center
Operational closures until further notice:
· Sports practice, league play, and tournaments on all City facilities (athletic fields and parks)
· Parks permits are not being issued due to restrictions on group gatherings
· Youth and adult programming
· All fitness classes
· Juvenile Citation Program (JCP) activities
· Keep Las Cruces Beautiful (KLCB) Program activities
· Administration offices are closed
