A Friday morning fire caused damage to a pair of apartments and has temporarily displaced two families.
About 4:45 a.m. Friday, April 17, Las Cruces firefighters were called to a fire at a duplex at 1505 La Fonda Drive. Arriving crews reported smoke emitting from the roof of one of the apartments.
Firefighters ensured both apartments were evacuated and located flames coming from a bathroom inside one of the homes. The fire extended to a nearby bedroom and into the adjoining apartment.
Firefighters had the blaze under control and extinguished before 5:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Both apartments experienced fire, smoke and water damage.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist occupants of both apartments who will be displaced until repairs are made.
Damages estimates and the cause of the fire have yet to be determined.
