Las Cruces Municipal Judge Joy Goldbaum has announced her campaign for Municipal Judge I, the presiding judicial position at the Municipal Court. Here is a statement from the Goldbaum campaign:
The citizens of Las Cruces elected Judge Goldbaum to serve as the associate Las Cruces Municipal Judge in 2017. Since that time she has assisted in the award winning DWI/Drug Court at the Dona Ana County Magistrate Court at the request of that Court. Judge Goldbaum wants to be your first choice for Municipal Judge I to bring such modern and evidence-based treatment options to the Las Cruces Municipal Court.
Judge Goldbaum has a nearly 30 year history of public service in southern New Mexico. She has been a Public Defender, a prosecutor, a Domestic Violence Hearing Officer, and a Child Support attorney. Her first concern is the safety of the community . She believes the best way to achieve public safety is to change the conditions that lead some individuals to drive drunk, and to address the root causes of addiction and homelessness in conjunction with a defendant's court charges. To this end she is determined to find alternatives to incarceration when possible
Municipal elections take place on November 5th, 2019. City and County elections will be consolidated in this election, and it will be done with Ranked Choice Voting. This gives voters the option of selecting their favorite candidates, rather than voting for a single candidate in each race. All City positions are non-partisan. Judge Goldbaum looks forward to talking to the diverse voters of Las Cruces.
